How to Make Clipart From Your Own Drawings!

This is a question that people also put on the Technology Tuesday request form... so I knew it would be popular with the polls!  Teachers always ask me how they can make their own clipart using their pictures... so here it is (finally, I know!)

Here was the poll:

Now, for the tutorial!

I know it seems like a lot, but so many of the steps are optional and/or just for troubleshooting purposes!  It's definitely not as hard as it looks!

As for next week's tutorial, I'm going to add something that a few people have asked me for: how to open ZIP files.  Be sure to vote!

What Did They Say!? Wednesday! (A Linky Party!)

My kids have spring fever!  Today was the ultimate day of "I'm telling!"  (Ugh... I thought we stopped that behavior back in October but someone it crept back into the classroom today!)  Regardless, the kids still had cute things to say!

What Did They Say!?

<div align="center"><a href="http://aturntolearn.blogspot.com/" title="What Did They Say!?"><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OIhmtxluCS0/ULwEfazkl1I/AAAAAAAADpM/MMMzxm23B0Y/s320/What+Did+They+Say+Wednesday.png" alt="What Did They Say!?" style="border:none;" /></a></div>

Here is my funny story for the week!

Now, before I tell the story, let me give you some background on the boy: he always says cute things but they're usually very basic responses: short sentences that are very literal.

Anyway, we were at the computer lab the other day and one of my kinders asked if he could watch the Abraham Lincoln video on Brain Pop Jr.  He had literally watched this video for three weeks in a row.  I asked him what he liked about Abraham Lincoln, fully expecting an answer like "He has a cool hat."  He totally surprised me when he matter of factly said, "Because he freed the slaves."  The tone in his voice was as if he was saying, "Duh, how didn't you know that!"

It was truly precious!

Now... it's time to share your cute kids story from this week!

Technology Tuesday Postponed! :(

Okay, okay... time to laugh at me.  It's technically time for technology tuesday, but technology is doing all it can to work against me today (and yesterday, for that matter!)  Yes... even those of us who eat, sleep, and breathe technology can have major tech problems!  Ugh!

Right now my internet is so slow it feels like I have dial up again (oh my gosh... remember those days!?), and it keeps kicking me off every five minutes.  On top of it, my files are all stored over a network, and it is so slow that the connection times out before my files even open.  I have reset everything what feels like a million times but after an hour straight of playing with it I'm thinking that it's time to call Verizon and have them walk me through it.  Guess that's how I'll be spending all of tomorrow night.  Ugh.

Sorry everyone... I know that this week's winner was very popular on the poll but I guess it will have to wait for now :(

Phonics Worksheets Mega-Pack, Soft C Freebie, and a Giveaway!

I had to do report cards this weekend... so of course it was time for some major procrastinating!  I decided to "cute up" some items for RTI for my struggling students.  I mostly have to focus on beginning short vowel sounds with a few of my little ones, but of course, I was on a roll, so I decided to re-vamp the whole alphabet!  Here's the whole set of letters... with a whopping 13 pages per letter!!!

Since I really only need to review phonics for short vowels with a handful of students, I decided to print these pages in a binder and use dry-erase markers for  those targeted for Response to Intervention!  I printed it on colorful paper since it was almost all black and white ink... and I LOVE how it looked (as did the kids!)  Check it out below!

And of course, next year, I'll be using many of the worksheets earlier in the year when I teach phonics.  Now that I have so many cute worksheets for phonics, I kind of wish I taught a Letter of the Week, but I know I wouldn't have time for that!

Since I'm also working on Soft C now, I decided to make a coordinating set of worksheets to go along with my soft c lesson plans... and as a thanks to all my loyal followers, here those are for free!

If you want to win this set for the whole alphabet along with some other amazing items, be sure to check out my friend Liann's blog for her Spring Giveaway!  Click the link below to check out her giveaway (which ends May 27th!)

Make Cute Center Cards Easily!

The other week I posted a tutorial on how to make your own center cards, and I realized that each time I make center games I always start from scratch!  I figure it would be much easier to make my own cards if I had a super cute template for them... so I took one of my cutesy frames and reformatted it 24 times to make it fit perfect in 24 different sized center card templates!  It was well worth the effort since I think I made a million new cards already! (Okay, okay... I only made a few sets... but it took way less time than usual!)

I have these cards up on TPT, and they're on sale today only for 20% off!  In the meantime, the first two people to comment will win them for free!

What Did They Say Wednesday!?

First of all, my apologies for my mistakes the past two Wednesdays - two weeks ago there was an issue with the linky party that wouldn't allow anyone to link up, and by the time I realized it, it was too late.  Last week, I thought I scheduled a post but apparently I didn't... oops!

One of my girls took permanent marker and wrote on her backpack, "Stop with the atood (attitude) in my house."  Of course, I needed to ask her about this and I was so worried for what she was going to say.  I asked her about it and she said, "It's my dog!  He always has such bad attitude!  He's always barking and being mean to people and I'm just tired of all his attitude!"

I couldn't have asked for a better answer!

How to Crop a Photo in PowerPoint!

It's Tuesday again... and it's shockingly much earlier in the night than my typical Technology Tuesday post!  The winner for this week's poll is a nifty option that is sure to save you some time when you create your own items!

Here are the poll results:

As for next week's poll, I'm going to add how to turn your hand drawn images into clipart.  I had a few people request this a while back and I promise I didn't forget about you!  I've been keeping an ongoing list of things to add to the poll eventually and I will eventually get to all of them!!!

How to Erase to Reveal Hidden Text/Images in Smart Notebook

This week's poll as a nail biter, but I am so excited to finally blog about an option that's been on the poll for a while... how to erase to reveal hidden text/images in Smart Notebook!  I love all these Smart Notebook tricks!

Here are the (incredibly close!) poll results:

Here's the tutorial! :)

I'm adding two new options to this week's poll since I didn't add any last week: how to crop an image in PowerPoint and how to click to reveal a hidden image in Smart Notebook!

What Did They Say!? Wednesday! (A Linky Party!)

As teachers, I'm pretty sure we could write a novel with all of the funny things our kids say each week!  But... since I don't know a publisher, I host this weekly linky party with all of the funny things students are the world are saying!

One of the prizes in the treasure chest is a toy compass... it spins around but doesn't actually point north. One of my boys took this prize today and went to put it in his backpack. Not two minutes later, he said:
"Ms. Jessica, this compass works good!"
Me: "Really? what do you mean?"
Boy: "It helped me get to my cubby to find my backpack!"

After 100-something days of school I'm sure he couldn't have done that without the compass!  Gotta love it!
